Experience

I want to help you achieve your full potential and goals while providing you tutoring sessions that are entirely designed to meet your specific needs, from scheduling our sessions at the time that works best for you to respecting your learning style and learning preferences. I usually have a lot of fun with my students who initially tend to have a painful relationship with the material, but I usually manage to get them to enjoy it and to become fully engaged with it. I am a Stanford and Columbia Business School graduate with thousands of hours of teaching experience, which are mix of teaching at traditional classroom settings at Stanford and Columbia Business School, one-on-one tutoring, and small group instruction. Several of my SAT Math Level 1 and 2 students maxed their scores. Some of my PSAT students scored at the top 1% which allowed them to become National Merit Semifinalists which is useful for their college applications. I have also tutored many college and MBA students in Economics, Accounting, Corporate Finance, and Calculus. Tutoring students who have long forgotten most of their mathematics background is one of my favorite things to do, thanks to my services they have managed to do really well on courses they thought they would have failed. My background in Mathematics is excellent, as I completed my bachelor's in Applied Mathematics at Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. This is a very challenging program equivalent to a Masters degree in the US according to WES, World Education Services, which has conducted a course-by-course evaluation of my transcript. I have also taught Calculus at the university level, to 2 sessions with 250 students each, as well as being a Teaching Assistant for MBA and PhD courses for 3 years at Columbia Business School. I am experienced in tutoring middle school, high school, and college students of different levels. For instance, while I was a graduate student at Stanford University, I participated as tutor on Stanford University Mathematics Camp, SUMaC, which welcomes a very diverse group of talented rising high school students (from juniors to seniors) from around the world for intensive study in advanced mathematics. This job required both a good knowledge of mathematics and the skill of engaging young students into the subject. These are the most recent reviews I just received: “Julia is a driven, organized teacher who develops inspiring relationships with her students and she has always been impelled to develop these teaching skills further. She has a wonderful rapport with people of all ages, especially children. Her ability to connect with her students and her talent at teaching complex concepts in a simple way is truly superior. Moreover, she also has excellent written and verbal communication skills. When tutoring her students, not only she goes through the actual problems, but also clearly explains the key concepts behind them, to learn how to approach similar questions and to check their work in the future. Julia accomplishes all these tasks with great initiative and with a positive attitude.” - M S, 6/6/2018 "Today's session was a great example of the true reason to hire a live tutor, rather than purchasing any pre-recorded program. After only a few sessions, I have reason to believe that my tutor has learned my personality well enough to mold her teaching strategies appropriately. Unlike any robot tutor or tutorial video(Ex: Khan Academy), I have been taught important lessons, without the hassle of being forced to change my mode of learning."Show Less – M B, 5/30/2018 "She has been extremely helpful, a great resource! " – J K, 5/7/2018 "Great work! The session ran a little longer than expected, but that's my own fault for poor scheduling. Overall, this was a great way for me to get ready for the SAT. My tutor helped me grasp difficult concepts that I had had failed at learning years prior. The pace was a bit quicker than my preference, but I suppose that's exactly the kind of rush I need in order to pass a timed exam like the SAT. Bravo! I regret nothing about this."Show Less –M B, 5/3/2018 "Very nice, good for visual type learning!" –C M, 4/17/2018 "Julia was excellent. She was super helpful in not only showing me how to complete the problem, but ensured I understand the concepts at large. " – G N, 4/17/2018 If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
